Walking in cities across the state, one can’t help but see the dozens of medical marijuana dispensaries densely laid out. Detroit happens to have about 61 pot shops, all open for trade. However, the current scenario might have changed come this time next year because most probably the landscape for weed around the state may be completely altered as a matter of fact.

From a speculative point of view, that will be the exact moment when the state will officially move out in an effort to try and hand out licenses to growers, transporters, dispensaries and to the testing facilities as well.

According to a number of trusted sources, the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has commenced the trade in the state. According to a number of projections by trusted parties, the marijuana business is as a matter of fact projected to generate revenues of more than $700 million.

LARA’s licensing division director; Andrew Brisbo was recently declared the director of the newly created Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation where he is expected to carry out his roles in the best way possible.

In carrying out his roles, he is expected to pay major focus on the department that could grow to nearly 100 employees who will be tasked with carrying out investigations in regards to the licensing of applicants as well as in the act of ultimately regulating the medical marijuana business. They will also administer the system responsible for tracking the medical marijuana from seed to sale.

According to the new law put in place, there will be the set up of some five categories of medical marijuana licenses for growers of up to 1,500 plants, dispensaries, transporters, testing facilities and the seed-to-sale tracking.

From reliable sources, dispensaries will be subjected to a taxation of about 3% on their gross receipts, and the money obtained will be directed to the state and local communities.

As a matter of fact, the state continues making efforts to come up with an application and licensing fee schedule, which will of course go along way towards covering the costs of the industry regulation.
